On Holiday

Start of my two week holiday………..has been a long time coming and am ready for the break. Plans are a bit vague at present, but the study/computer room desperately requires a revamp, not seeing any fresh paint for far too many years now. Also should enable me to spring clean the contents of the room and ditch a lot of junk that has collected over the years, lets face it, how many CPU heat sinks does a bloke need? A bright colour needs to be the way to go, as much light as possible in here. Still awaiting the dry weather to come back and let me get some time on my bike.

Lightning Open day

A superb day out......both Lightnings performed a treat and to see a double aircraft fast taxi was something else, 21 years after leaving RAF service they behaved well, thanks to the dedicated team of enthusiasts who put in the hours. According to the sales figures on Sunday, the team have enough money to now get the side panels fitted to the Q shed, a superb response from the public.
I did get my hands dirty this time, assisting Jack the resident leckie with a small snag of the firewire variety. just like old times for me.

Culture week

Culture week at work........Still trying to find out what that meant, basically our students instead of attending there normal courses, were all signed up to various away days, London, Cleethorpes and other exotic places. We also had a T-Shirt printing session on the Tuesday and Wednesday for those that preferred to stay nearer home, with a sweet making course to add to the excitement. A busy few days from Monday to Wednesday and glad it is over now and back to normal. Next week is time to get things sorted out before block leave for 10 days. It is my first holiday since Easter and ready for it.

Fake AntiVirus Program

Personal Antivirus.........A friend was downloading some torrent files and in his hurry forgot to do a virus check before running the download, result a lovely trojan that posed as a program called Personal Antivirus, totally bogus of course, but it's infections 117 of them loaded up his laptop so that it kept popping up virus warnings, one after the other.

Luckily I had the sense to check on google for this trojan, and it listed several methods to get rid of it, the one I chose was SuperAntiSpyware (free edition), ran it and 117 infections found and quarantined very nicely done too. Would recommend this program, very efficient and picks up stuff most others didn't.

Moral of the story, if you must download torrents, a virus check is crucial to the health of your PC and your sanity.

On the mend

My cold.....although not up to man flu standard, nonetheless it has been the most uncomfortable cold for years, now seems to be on the mend. Been busy at work and so looking forward to my next complusory 10 days holiday, the first week in August, seems a lifetime away. Am looking forward to the weekend though and getting out on my bike, weather permitting.
