Another Cold
just got shot of one cold and..............now another manifests itself over the last week, think the worst of it is over, but there again I thought that the last time round. Half my work mates have been on sick leave and I got to thinking, why not me? never take time off unless it's man flu of course. We will see how things progress or regress over the weekend before making a decision. Has not been a good week for outdoor activity at all. cloudy and a bit cold for comfort, hopefully a better weekend ahead. Tuesday my wife returns from Canada, so another trip to Humberside Airport to look forward to. I hate when summer has decided to depart, darker mornings for the daily drive. Party time next weekend, my grandson's birthday and a clan gathering here, so at least something to look forward to. Have notified personnel department at work that I will be retiring from the workforce at the break up for Christmas holidays, seems to be a bit closer to the day now.

A busy week
Had a busy week.....Wednesday evening a very good friend who I had not seen since 87-88 not sure of the dates, but a long time ago and a posting to deepest Deeside, whilst still in the RAF, I had the pleasure to meet Gordon, who had suffered the same inconvenience of being detached from his home and family and who resided in the next room to me in the Sgt's Mess, we worked on the same team for a while and got to know each other well. My friend happened to be staying in Skegness last week, visiting all his old RAF haunts in the county so decided that not to miss an opportunity, we should meet up one night. Gordon and his wife arrived on my doorstep and it felt like all the years had melted away and there we were chatting over old times and the RAF in particular, then I drove them to a lovely old pub and restaurant where we had a lovely meal and continued chatting away. Gordon's wife had to sit through all this, and must admit, she never dozed off while we were pulling up a sandbag. Superb evening and great to meet up again.

Job Done
Well it took a week of hard work to dig up a lawn area, remove lots of clay from the turf, dispose of the turf, smooth the ground out, order the gravel all one and a half tons of it, and the weather held all week without rain. Yesterday completed the task and am pleased with the result. Just a few bits of stone and driftwood to find to make it look the part now.

Feeling Old
Beginning to feel old, just had a letter from DWP today, informing me that I am eligible to claim my state pension anytime from now, funnily enough I was just about to get in touch with them to see what the score is, so now it is official, I can retire from January, roll on retirement.

This is more like it
Well it seems that summer decided to make a re-appearance, from Monday to now it has been glorious, sun and heat back with a vengeance. Have managed to get all the grass that I had planned to dig up, dug, bagged up and one trip left to the re-cycling centre tomorrow. Next step is to order gravel to complete the job and no more grass mowing for me, love it.

Dull and Cool Sunday
Up at the crack of dawn, doing some website updating and was going to do some work outside, but rather cool today, so will start the serious work tomorrow if the rain stays off. Invited out for dinner tonight, my son and girlfriend took pity on me and have saved me cooking, looking forward to it. My next spot of leave is October and then the last one will be Christmas break on which I will retire gracefully from working for a living, done my time and looking forward to a rest.

September
Is Autumn here already.....if so, where has this Indian summer we were promised? admittedly we had a good few weeks, but that does not constitute a good summer. My wife has gone over to Canada for 3 weeks to visit her sister, so that leaves me here to go to work, roll on retirement, must be great to do what you like when you like. Been busy this weekend, cutting the grass, cleaning up the mower to sell on EBay, am digging up the last bit of grass as soon as I get a minute. Had to remove a shrub as well, this is taking longer than I thought, roots are deep. Next job digging up the grass strip and levelling of the ground, removing as many roots that lay beneath, before ordering gravel to complete the job. Washing done and nearly dry. It's a busy life.
